Corey Sittinger is a freelance percussionist, educator, and creative collaborator based in the Baltimore–Washington, D.C. area. He performs across a wide-ranging artistic vision to both his performing and teaching.
Corey’s performance experience spans orchestral, chamber, and solo settings, as well as pit orchestras and jazz vibraphone. He has performed with groups including the DC Concert Orchestra, 21st Century Consort, Arundel Vocal Arts Society, and Capitol City Symphony. His flexible musicianship also makes him an in-demand collaborator for both standard and experimental repertoire.
As an educator, Corey focuses on musicality and healthy technique, tailoring instruction to each student’s goals while building strong foundations in classical percussion, drum set, and world music. He regularly teaches private lessons and has led clinics and masterclasses throughout Maryland public schools. His teaching philosophy emphasizes injury prevention and body awareness, drawing from his studies in Alexander Technique and personal experience overcoming playing-related injuries.
Corey is a founding member of Matchstick Percussion, a performer-led new music ensemble committed to equitable and diverse relations within the music community. Matchstick engages in commissioning, education, and performance projects, and has partnered with ensembles such as So Percussion and Sandbox Percussion to premiere new works, including a recent consortium commission by Kendall K. Williams.
Corey works with Capitol Percussion + Backline Rentals, overseeing field operations and warehouse logistics, as well as handling instrument repairs, particularly tuning and maintaining Thai gongs, Rhodes keyboards, and other specialized equipment.
Corey holds a Master of Music degree from the University of Maryland, where he studied with Dr. Lee Hinkle, and a Bachelor of Music from Towson University under Dr. Michelle Humphreys. He also earned a Performer's Certificate from Penn State and previously studied with Marc Dinitz and Mike Noonan.
